Comprehensive Diabetes Care

Diabetes is a chronic condition where the pancreas produces too little or no insulin, causing blood glucose levels to be elevated. When diabetes is not properly monitored and controlled, it can lead to complications that can be disabling and even life-threatening.

Diabetics should be screened annually using the following tests:

  • Hemoglobin A1c Control – This blood test tells how well blood sugars are controlled over a period of two to three months. Your provider will use this test as a way to determine if your medications or diet need to be adjusted
  • Nephropathy Screening – This simple urine test will help your provider determine if your kidneys have been damaged as a result of elevated blood glucose levels. Severe damage can lead to kidney disease or even kidney failure.
  • Diabetic Eye Exam – Diabetes can lead to damage to the blood vessels of the retina called diabetic retinopathy which can lead to blindness. Diabetes can also increase your risk of conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma.
If you need assistance scheduling any of these tests, please contact the Quality Management department
