Celebrating 20 Years
In 2004, Bakersfield Family Medical Center will celebrate its 20th year of providing quality health care services to the residents of Bakersfield and Kern County.
Today's medicine is very different from that of 15-20 years ago. There have
been major changes in governmental regulations, Medicare, HMO's and PPO's.
Patients are demanding better services as their benefits decrease, in spite of
increasing premiums. These factors weigh heavily on physicians who strive to accommodate
both patients and health plans.
Our nation is congested with citizens suffering from lifestyle related chronic
diseases. Our lifestyle behaviors create most of the 10 leading causes of death
among adults in the United States. Billions of dollars are spent annually to manage
these diseases, with $117 billion dollars alone spent to treat obesity-related
diseases in the year 2000.
